Here's a quick review:
- PrEP is a pill you take once a day to prevent HIV infection.
- PrEP should only be taken by people who are HIV-negative.
- PrEP is most effective when it's taken as prescribed, which is once a day.
- It takes about 7 days for PrEP to build up in your body to be most effective. For women and transgender males, it may take up to 21 days.
- PrEP does not protect you against other sexually transmitted infections, such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis. It is highly recommended that you still use condoms with PrEP.
