For many years several State Education Departments hosted a regional HIV/AIDS/STDs and Human Sexuality Education Regional Conference in Kansas City, MO. The conference was designed for teachers, school nurses, prevention and care providers, administrators, health professionals, community health planners, physicians, counselors, persons from community-based organizations, members of the faith community, social workers, parents and public health individuals.
In 2012 I presented two separate sessions, one titled "Making Things Better: Inclusivity of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Issues in School Setting" and the other titled "A Generation Free of HIV: Strategies to Engage Students in the Fight Against HIV" (with my colleague Dominique Saunders). I was invited back to present the LGBT Inclusivity session for the 2013 conference, which focused on the best presentations from previous years.
