2010 KDHE HIV
Testing Campaign

RETURN TO PROJECTS

In July 2010, I received a promotion to the Director of Prevention while working at the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE). In the months leading up to the promotion, I worked with a small internal group on developing an HIV testing campaign. After we had developed some prototypes of the ads, we sent them out to several community groups, including the Kansas Community Planning Group, to get feedback for final design decisions.

I came up with the idea of "Worth It" for the main message of the campaign - focusing on the idea of getting tested for HIV and knowing your status was worth knowing regardless of whether you tested positive or negative. I also found the primary images on stock image websites that the group ultimately decided to use. The official versions of the ads were then developed by an ad agency and ultimately appeared on billboards, flyers, and coasters for bars.
