Men who have sex with men (MSM), whether they identify as gay, bisexual, or something else, comprise the population at the highest risk for HIV infection in the United States. States like Kansas and Missouri are often successfully able to develop HIV prevention actitivities to engage MSM in urban areas (such as Kansas City and St. Louis), but struggle with engaging MSM living in rural areas.
I developed this presentation to address the barriers in reaching MSM in rural areas, to give ideas on how and where to find rural MSM, and to share strategies for engaging rural MSM in HIV and STI (sexually transmitted infection) prevention activties. In particular, this presentation was developed for the Southeast Missouri Regional Prevention Planning Group.
