Integrating front-end design, middle-tier programming, data access

About Travis

"Don't wait around for other people to be happy for you. Any happiness you get you've got to make yourself."
- Alice Walker

A social worker.
A massage therapist.
A computer programmer.

Called a "jack of many trades," Travis Barnhart has a lot of different interests in life. In his working life he has been a social worker, a massage therapist, and soon-to-be computer programmer. Those may seem like very disparate career paths, but they all makes sense when you understand Travis' desire to help people and his strong intrinsic ability to understand how things work - and how to fix or improve them.

Through February 2018, Travis is attending Centriq's Full-Stack Web Developer Program. This intensive program is helping him develop real-world skills in front-end development (HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, Bootstrap), middle-tier programming (C#), back-end data access (SQL), and the integration of the full stack (MVC). Upon graduation from the program Travis hopes to become a full-time programmer working somewhere in or near the Kansas City metro.

Resume and Skills

These are the skills Travis learned while studying at Centriq. You can also download his resume and visit his LinkedIn profile and GitHub repositories from here.

Front-End Development

User interface for applications and websites using HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, and Bootstrap

Middle-Tier Programming

At Centriq, Travis learned to program in C#, which helps connect front-end user interaction with back-end data access through MVC (Model-View-Controller)

Back-End Data Access

In previous work, Travis has worked frequently with databases, and is learning how to access and manipulate data using SQL and LINQ

Projects Portfolio

Keep an eye on this section for new projects!

For my presentation project to complete my training at Centriq, I built a mock learning management system for a fictional genealogy center. This site fully incorporates MVC, LINQ, HTML/CSS, and Bootstrap. Feel free to poke around, especially if you have an interest in learning more about genealogy research!
I developed this site for a Web Design class I took at Metropolitan Community College - Penn Valley. I used HTML5 and CSS3 to create a fairly simple website to share information about PrEP, a topic of interest in my social work career.

Personal Interests

In his free time, Travis enjoys amateur genealogy research, reading, knitting and crochet
